Vinyl Digital Systems – How Do They Work?

They allow DJs to scratch and do other things that are not possible with a keyboard or mouse.

DVS systems use special time-code vinyl or CD control. Audio from the hard time code is first transmitted to a A2D audio interface (usually provided as part of package DEP), which then sends a signal digital time code for the software. The software then converts the signal to the corresponding change in the position and speed of reading the digital file. Mute software then goes through the audio interface or sound card in your computer, then to a mixer, where it can be mixed in the same manner as any other audio signal.

The length of delay between reading the time code signal and the audio is a measure of the performance of a digital vinyl system. A typical time is generally about 6 to 30 milliseconds.

SAY packages the most popular on the market is now Serato Scratch Live (SSL) and Native Instruments Traktor Scratch Pro. Scratch Live is the most popular system in the United States while Traktor Scratch is more popular in Europe.
